Emily Eales

Emily Eales, ceramic, Dog Tired
Emily thrives on people, animals, colour, texture, fun, a good dose of whimsy, loud music and for her the scene is set to “create”. Always considered as an artsy-fartsy by her family, she started dabbling with clay in the 70s then studied ceramics at the KZN Technicon in the 90s. From there on, clay has turned into a passion bordering on obsession.

Working from her home based studio in Hamilton, Emily’s work is mainly about people, working from life, imagination and good memories. Fascinated with faces, movement and expression, trying to capture a familiar moment is what she strives for.

She enjoys whimsical characters where there is freedom for imagination and the child within, but portrait sculpture is her ongoing addictive challenge, trying to capture the essence of a person, that particular feeling that makes them come to life.

Emily’s other self-taught interests include: Concrete sculpture and Acrylic painting.

Her motto is “chase what lights you up!
